Why did Germany wait to attack the Soviet Union until Barbarossa?

The German decision to delay the invasion of the Soviet Union until Operation Barbarossa in 1941 was influenced by several factors. One key reason was the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed in 1939, a non-aggression agreement between Germany and the Soviet Union. Hitler aimed to avoid a two-front war and sought to secure the eastern front before turning against the Soviets. Additionally, Germany needed time to prepare its military forces and logistics for such a massive campaign. The delay allowed the Germans to consolidate power in Western Europe before launching a major offensive in the east.
